Therapy FAQ's
Currently, I offer sessions in-person and through a HIPAA-compliant teletherapy platform, depending on which option works best for you as a client. Below are some other frequently asked questions about therapy.
What kind of therapist are you?
My style of therapy is conversational and informal. I aim to build a solid therapeutic relationship with my clients to ensure they feel safe and comfortable in the therapy process. I come to sessions as I am, and I hope clients will feel as though they can come as they are. A majority of my work is person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, and humanistic. This means that I believe in the power of individuals to find their problems and solutions - I don't necessarily "tell" my clients what their problems are and how to fix them, but I am here to explore these things with you and be your guide in the process. I believe our past experiences, current thinking, and current circumstances can create issues for us, and looking more in-depth at these areas can help us heal and grow, becoming who we are meant to be.
What happens in therapy? What can I expect?
Starting the therapy process can be nerve-racking. Scary. And uncomfortable. It can seem mysterious, and we may guess what it will be like based on things we have seen in the media or heard from others' experiences - some good and some not. I aim to light the path for you in the beginning and be as transparent as possible on each step. We'll start by discussing some of the problems you would like to resolve and then create a plan to move forward. Our work is rooted in building a therapeutic relationship based on trust, confidentiality, and collaboration.
How long will the therapy process take?
I am an advocate for lifelong learning and growth, but that doesn't mean all of that growth has to happen only in therapy! Each therapeutic journey looks different: some are short-term and solution-focused, and others are long-term and root and meaning-focused. It depends on the client's goals, and what clients hope to accomplish in their time. You and I can talk more in depth about what your journey could look like, depending on your goals.
